Our upcoming release, 20.0.21.08 which is due to be released early September, will include an update to the Vehicle App.

The biggest change is 'under the hood' and involves a change to a new development library called React. React was initially created by Facebook and is used by companies such as Netflix, Uber, and Airbnb. We've made the move to this library because it's easier and quicker to develop web applications such as the Vehicle App. More importantly for terminals, it brings performance improvements and reduces the amount of data that needs to be passed back and forth when a change happens in the app.

As part of the process of moving the Vehicle App to react, we have taken the opportunity to make some improvements that have been requested by several customers. These include:

UI changes

  • Giving focus to the search box each time the screen is displayed, allowing the driver to search for cargo without having to tap in the field first.
  • Showing the connection status of refrigerated containers and allowing them to be moved even if connected at the time of queuing (if configuration allows).Graphical user interface, application Description automatically generated

Graphical View

  • The graphical view will now update if the user manually types in a location. This allows a target location to be typed in then refined by tapping a location in the graphical view.

Tandem Moves
  • Changes have been made to both the text view and graphical view so that it is easier to see which container is in position 1 and which is in position 2.
  • On set down, when the target location is the same for both containers, indicators have been added to help identify the order that the containers will be set down in. Graphical user interface, text, application Description automatically generated

  • Made changes to the swap function so that the target locations are swapped rather than the location of the containers on the machine.

Visible fields

  • The Info, ID, Source and Target fields are now configurable so that they can be selected to display and can be placed in any order.
  • Dwell Days and Hazard Details have been added as fields that can be displayed.
